Live Course: Advanced MLD Techniques and Modalities
Advanced MLD and Modalities
The course is designed for clinicians with prior lymphedema coursework and clinical experience treating patients with lymphedema and lymphatic diseases.Β The education will uncover advanced MLD techniques and modalities that maximize edema reduction and pain, restore functional movement, and aims to achieve the highest quality of life for individuals living with lymphedema. Material covered will include case studies, unilateral and bilateral MLD sequences, NPT (negative pressure therapy), vibration, US (ultrasound), LLLT (low-level laser therapy), kinesiology taping, and scar management.
8 contact hours (0.8CEUs)
Course Learning Objectives:
1. Integrate Advanced Knowledge
Critically analyze and synthesize advanced manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and complete decongestive therapy (CDT) principles, applying evidence-based research to complex clinical presentations.
2. Apply Advanced Clinical Reasoning
Evaluate and differentiate among precautionary and contraindicated comorbidities, demonstrating advanced decision-making in determining when referral to interdisciplinary healthcare providers is necessary.
3. Demonstrate High-Level Technical Competence
Perform and adapt complex MLD sequences, including advanced unilateral, bilateral, and region-specific protocols, to optimize lymphatic function and patient outcomes.
4. Implement Specialized Intervention Strategies
Demonstrate competency in advanced fibrotic tissue management and manual techniques that address resistant edema, fibrosis, and skin integrity challenges.
5. Employ Critical Thinking in Modality Selection
Select and justify appropriate advanced modalities including adjunct technologies and therapeutic approaches-that safely facilitate lymphatic drainage, reduce fibrosis, and enhance quality of life.
6. Design and Justify Comprehensive Treatment Plans
Construct, implement, and justify individualized treatment plan and case study that demonstrate advanced sequencing of MLD, CDT, and adjunct interventions, incorporating both clinical outcomes and patient-reported measures.
