Advanced MLD and Modalities
The course is designed for clinicians with prior lymphedema coursework and clinical experience treating patients with lymphedema and lymphatic diseases. The education will uncover advanced MLD techniques and modalities that maximize edema reduction and pain, restore functional movement, and aims to achieve the highest quality of life for individuals living with lymphedema. Material covered will include case studies, unilateral and bilateral MLD sequences, NPT (negative pressure therapy), vibration, US (ultrasound), LLLT (low-level laser therapy), kinesiology taping, and scar management.
Course Objectives:
- Attendees will review fundamental MLD concepts and understand 3 Vodder techniques.
- Attendees will identify 4 precautionary and 4 contraindicated comorbidities that provide understanding of when referring to other healthcare professionals takes precedence before proceeding with CDT.
- Attendees will demonstrate competency in 2 unilateral and 2 bilateral MLD limb sequences that maximize lymph decongestion.
- Attendees will demonstrate competency with 3 deep fibrotic techniques to improve tissue health.
- Attendees will demonstrate critical thinking skills related to selecting appropriate modalities to utilize during MLD that safely facilitate edema reduction and improve QOL.
- Attendees will understand and demonstrate how to create the most effective MLD treatment sequence for a case study.
