Live Course: Advanced Bandaging

Advanced Bandaging

This advanced-level course is designed for clinicians seeking to deepen their expertise in compression therapy for lymphedema management. Participants will expand upon foundational bandaging skills to master multilayer compression applications, specialized wrapping for complex anatomical areas, and integration of adjunctive compression systems. Through hands-on practice and case-based learning, clinicians will refine their ability to optimize limb shaping, reduce edema, and promote functional outcomes while ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Course Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the biomechanical principles of multilayer compression bandaging, including the concepts of working pressure, resting pressure, and Laplaceโ€™s Law, to ensure safe and effective application.
  2. Identify at least four precautionary considerations and four contraindications to compression bandaging, demonstrating knowledge of when to modify, defer, or refer care.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in applying multilayer short-stretch bandaging techniques for both upper and lower extremities, incorporating padding, foam, and specialized materials to optimize limb shaping and edema reduction.
  4. Perform advanced techniques for bandaging irregularly shaped areas (e.g., hands, feet, trunk, and digits) to promote functional mobility while maintaining therapeutic compression.
  5. Integrate adjunctive compression options such as Velcro devices, night garments, and hybrid bandaging approaches into individualized treatment plans.
  6. Evaluate the effectiveness of applied bandaging through clinical assessment of fit, comfort, tissue response, and edema reduction, making evidence-informed adjustments as needed.
  7. Design a comprehensive compression management strategy for a complex case scenario, incorporating patient education, self-bandaging instruction, and outcome-based treatment goals.
